It’s January. It’s dark and dreary out. I know one way that would cheer us all up. Book a weekend away! We went to Edinburgh just after Christmas for a weekend and it was so fun.
Edinburgh is such a beautiful city all year round, not just at Christmas so you could visit there any time and have an amazing time.
We flew direct from City of Derry Airport and checked in to the Amelia Earhart Lounge. I’m not a big fan of waiting around in Airports so this was such a nice treat to chill out before the flight.
We stayed in the Hub by Premier Inn at Haymarket. It was so modern and compact. Perfect if you’re looking for a close to the centre, inexpensive place to stay. For every guest at the hotel, there was complimentary Tea & Coffee at reception! Such a great touch.
Not surprisingly, when we arrived, we were all starving, so we ate at The Boozy Cow. Hot Dogs, Burgers, Halloumi Fries and beaut cocktails – what else could you ask for?
As it was after Christmas, we had all had enough of the shops. Of course we visited the usual shops.. Harvey Nicholls, Primark, Zara and Topshop, but mainly we just had fun walking around taking in the sights of the City. As the Christmas Market was still on Princes Street, our first night consisted of Mulled Wine, Market Stalls and taking unlimited pretty Instagram Stories.
An early night and early morning rise on the Saturday meant we got up, picked up our complimentary coffee at reception and headed up the Royal Mile. For breakfast, we hit Deacon’s House for Brunch before we visited the castle.
Once we had completed our 10,000 steps, we decided it was time for a seat and a beer. The Mad Hatter in Haymarket is one of the cutest little pubs I’ve ever visited. The Winter Martini’s were especially great!
It’s sort of a tradition for us all to go to Hard Rock Café in every City we visit, so Edinburgh was no exception. After dinner and drinks, we went back to the hotel to get a good sleep for our early flight.
For the last breakfast of the trip, we stumbled across a random little café in Haymarket. It was absolutely delicious. On the menu was a Full Scottish, Pornstar Martini Pancakes and freshly squeezed Orange Juice. I am not joking when I say, it was up there with one of the nicest meals I’ve eaten.
It’s safe to say we had the best time in Edinburgh and I’ll definitely make a point of returning in the Summer.
