The Blogging Diaries. Likes, Dislikes and Everything in Between

Hey everyone! Today’s post is going to be a lot more personal as I talk about my blogging journey.

Why I started Blogging

Since I was a child, I have been absolutely obsessed with fashion and clothes. I was never one to shy away from bold outfits. I always wanted to wear something a little bit different. When I was very young, I dressed my Barbies in the best clothes. When I was in my early teens, I remember cutting out outfits from magazines and sticking them in to notebooks for inspiration (before Pinterest was a thing). It’s clear to see, I’ve always been an aspiring fashionista.

When I was at University completing a Marketing degree, one of my assignments focused on Digital Advertising and Marketing. This was when I was introduced to the world of blogging.

This was a time where there were really only a handful of successful bloggers. Such as Tanya Burr, Zoella, PixiWoo and Chiara Ferragni. I became fascinated with their websites and YouTube accounts. I just thought it was amazing how they shared their views and opinions on certain products and clothing, and I found myself taking their opinion as fact.. You could say I was “influenced” by them.

Anyway.. All the while I was watching their channels and reading their blogs, I began to wonder… could I start a blog?

It wasn’t until I opened an Instagram account in 2012 and began to share my #OOTD photos that I really gave it some thought. Years passed and I had been sharing outfit photos but didn’t really know how to use Hashtags or any other tool Instagram offers.. But it was always playing in the back of my mind that some day I should start writing and sharing my favourite high street outfits.

I was constantly giving my friends and family advice on what to wear and where to buy it, so in October 2016, I decided that I would just go for it.. I was half way there really…. Surely it wasn’t that difficult?

I created my first post in January 2017 and then, the scary moment came when I created a Facebook Page.. (For some reason, I find Facebook scarier than Instagram). And the rest as they say is history…

What bugs me about the Blogging industry

While my time blogging has been incredible, and I wouldn’t change my journey for the world, there are some things about the blogging industry that irritate me a little.

Influencers and Bloggers getting mixed up – Bloggers write regular content for a website whereas influencers run a social media account, not an actual website.

Heavily editing photos also needs to stop… I love a good Instagram filter but there is no need to change your entire face just to get that perfect selfie.

Bloggers who are taking over the industry whilst staying real

Megan Ellaby

My favourite thing about Blogging

Aside from actually talking about and sharing tips about fashion (which is my all time favourite past time) My favourite part is probably the social aspect of blogging and meeting new people. I’ve met some amazing friends through blogging, who I never would have met otherwise.

Any Tips I would give to Bloggers

Don’t compare yourself to anyone and be yourself!
